Repetitive strain injury is sometimes known as RSI. It refers to any ailment that comes about from the repeated exposure to any activity that puts too much strain on any part of the body.
It can be painful, and it can also be something that can prevent you from doing what you want to. All in all, it’s better to try to avoid it in the first place. Once it sets in, it’s the type of injury that can be difficult to get rid of. It’s most often caused by typing in an office.
Here are some tips to avoid having to go through the pain of repetitive strain injury:
Check whether you are sitting in the best place for you to do your work. You can move your desk and your chair to suit you. You should not have to sit to suit your workspace.
If your equipment is causing you pain, then you should change it. Look for ergonomic replacements.
Posture can be a big component of acquiring repetitive strain injury. Your chair should be adjustable. Chairs are always replaceable and so is money, however a back isn’t.
Your desk should be at the height that is good for you. It shouldn’t be at the height that suits your chair. If necessary you may need to place something underneath the legs of the table to make it higher, or lower it by sawing part of the legs off.
Fully adjustable keywords can make everything a lot more comfortable. Give one a go and you’ll have an epiphany of what you’ve been missing out on.
Keep a selection of computer mice. You’ll cut down on the amount of repetitive movement that you’re doing. There are different types on the market that will be easier to use.
You won’t have to keep leaning over if you invest in a document holder. Be sure to put it at head height next to your monitor. You’ll be able to retain good posture with your head upright.
Your monitor should be set correctly. Your eye line, when you are sitting properly with good posture, should be used as a guide. Set the monitor at the right height and distance away from you. Your arms should have a slight bend in them when you are typing.
Enquire about RSI training. You don’t want to inadvertently cause yourself an issue because you didn’t know what you were doing was going to give you the results that you get. Recovery can take a long time – whilst your life is impacted.
